The next room contains the first Deku Scrub. To defeat it, target it with Z and use your shield to return its shot to it (fig. 1). The Deku Scrub will be forced from its nest. When Link catches it, the Deku Scrub tells him to hold the analog stick in the direction you are facing to roll after a fall. Go to the next room and jump on the crumbling platform to get to a chest. Open the large chest to get the Fairy Slingshot (fig. 2). Now cutting bushes can earn you Deku Seeds to use as ammo, as well as defeating Deku Babas. To get out of the room, use the Fairy Slingshot on the ladder hung on the wall opposite the chest (fig. 3).

Return to the main room and kill the Skullwalltulas which wander on the vines (fig. 1). Climb to the top of the room and go through the door on the highest level of the room (fig. 2). Be wary of the Big Skulltulas which drop from the ceiling.

Press the switch (fig. 1) to make the platforms rise and hurry across the room to retrieve the Compass (fig. 2) from the chest. Jump down and kill the Big Skulltula. Press the switch again and cross the platforms to get to the left alcove this time. You will find a Gold Skulltula and kill it to gain 1 of 100 Skulltula Tokens.

Now you will want to return to the previous room. To do this light a Deku Stick with the lit torch and use it to light the extinguished torch (fig. 1). If you look at your map you will find that the only place you have yet to visit is the lowest room of the dungeon. To do this, kill one of the Big Skulltulas then jump onto spider web in the centre of the room. Once you land on the middle of the web it will break and you will fall into a cavern partially filled with water.

Once down, get out of the water and go to the platform at the north of the room. Press the switch (fig. 1) to light the torch covered by some cobwebs (fig. 2) then ignite one of your Deku Sticks. Jump into the shallow part of the water and run to the other platform (fig. 3) to burn the cobwebs at the end of the room. This will allow access to the door. Before going through the door, kill both of the Gold Skulltulas. One is crawling on the vines and one is on the grates at the north end of the room.

Kill the Deku Scrub and it will give you a hint on beating the three Deku Scrubs later in the dungeon (fig. 1, remember the order). Shoot the silver eye switch (fig. 2) with your Fairy Slingshot to open the door. This next room is filled with water. To drain the water, dive down onto a switch. Get back up and jump on to the platform that crosses the room. Kill the Big Skulltula and push the big block under the doorway so you can climb onto it and reach the door.

After going through the door you will find a simple puzzle Simply ignite all the torches with a Deku Stick to proceed. The next room has a cobweb blocking a passageway, which is easily destroyed by fire.

Crawl through the passageway. Push the block into the water (fig. 1), ignite your stick using the torch past the block and quickly return (fig. 2) to ignite the cobweb on the ground (fig. 3) which will bring you into the lowest level of the Deku Tree. Get out of the water and kill the Deku Scrubs in the order the previous Deku Scrub told you (2 3 1, or middle, right, left). Catch the last Deku Scrub as it tries to flee and it will give you a hint on defeating the dungeon boss. Go through the door that is now open to face Queen Gohma.

Inside the Deku Tree - Boss : Gohma, Parasitic Armored Arachnid Launch music

You will now face the Parasitic Armored Arachnid, Gohma. To begin the fight just look up towards the ceiling, at which point she sees Link and starts to attack. To stun her just use the Fairy Slingshot and Z-targeting to hit her eye with a Deku Seed while her eye is coloured red. While she is on the floor you can attack her eye with the Kokiri Sword to deal damage. Gohma can also go up to the ceiling. In this case, just wait until her eye turns red and attack with the Fairy Slingshot again to stun her. This stun is 8 seconds long, which is better than the 5 seconds from stunning her while she is already on the floor. She can also be stunned for 2 seconds by using a Deku Nut, which is useful if you find it hard to use the Fairy Slingshot. If you do not stun her and make her fall to the floor while she climbs onto the ceiling, she will lay eggs that hatch into Gohma Larva if not destroyed in time.

After leaving, the Great Deku Tree tells you a story of the creation of Hyrule by Din, goddess of Strength, Nayru, goddess of Wisdom and Farore, goddess of courage. When they left Hyrule, a power called the Triforce was created at the exit point. The evil man from the desert who cursed him is after the Triforce and must be stopped. He also tells Link that although Link lifted the curse, it is too late for him and he will die soon. The Spiritual Stone of the Forest, Kokiri's Emerald, is now given to Link, is the stone that the evil man cursed the Great Deku Tree to try to get. He urges you to seek the "Princess of Destiny" in Hyrule Castle, and save Hyrule by stopping the evil man from getting the Triforce. The fate of Hyrule is now in Link's hands.
