When you arrive in Kakariko Village, you will see an isolated Cucco (fig. 1). Take it to the enclosure located to the south (fig. 2). The Cucco Lady has lost her Cuccos and would like you to bring them back to her. There are 7 to collect, one of which is behind the Cucco Lady (fig. 2). The third is in a crate behind the house closest to the entrance (fig. 3). The fourth is on a ledge next to the Skulltula House. To reach it, you have to jump from the construction site while holding a Cucco (fig. 4) to glide down slowly enough, then throw them both to the ground. Alternatively, scare it with a Deku Nut or shoot your Fairy Slingshot at it. The fifth is behind an unreachable grid (fig. 5). To get to it, take a Cucco and jump from the platform near the windmill to land on the skinny fence closest to the potion shop (fig. 5). Throw all the Cuccos over the barrier (fig. 6) and climb the ladder. At the top, you will find another Cucco (fig. 7). Take it and jump down to bring the other Cuccos back to the Cucco Lady. The seventh and last Cucco is located to the north of the village (fig. 8), in front of the staircase leading to Death Mountain. Bring back this last Cucco then talk to the Cucco Lady who will give you a Empty Bottle (fig. 9).

Now go and visit the Graveyard, the entrance of which is right next to the Cucco enclosure. At the end of Kakariko Graveyard, there is the Royal Family's Tomb, which has the Royal Family's coat of arms on it. When you see this coat of arms, it is wise to play Zelda's Lullaby. Take out your Ocarina and play this song. The tomb then explodes, revealing a hole that Link can go down. Before doing this you can read the graves on either side of the tomb to make the Composer Brothers appear who will give context on the Sun Song. Once you go down the hole, kill the 5 Keese to make the door open and go through it. Avoid the obnoxious ReDeads and go through the door at the other end of the room.Press A on the large stone tablet in this room and Link learns the Sun's Song which changes day to night and night to day. Leave the tomb to get to the Graveyard again.

The time should automatically change to night after getting the Sun's Song, so get some Gold Skulltulas. While you are in Kakariko Graveyard, pull back the grave which has flowers planted in front (fig. 1). Go into the hole revealed below, and open the chest, to find a Hylian Shield to save on spending 50 Rupees for one later. Since the time should be between 6pm and 9pm, go to the Graveyard to play the Heart-Pounding Gravedigging Tour. You will see Dampe in the middle of a "gravedigger excursion". Speak to him and play his mini-game for 10 Rupees. There is nothing beneath the cobblestones so only dig on the ground (fig. 2) until you find a Heart Piece. Before leaving the village, if you have more than 10 Skulltula, visit the Skulltula House and speak to the person who has had the curse lifted. They will give you the Adult's Wallet which allows Link to carry 200 Rupees.

Once you have the Adult Wallet go to the north of the village and show Zelda's letter to the guard so that he lets you pass (fig. 1). At this point, you can also start the Mask Trading Sequence if you want. Then follow the Death Mountain trail and the signs to Goron City. Once in the city, go down to the bottom and play Zelda's lullaby on the carpet in front of the big door so that it opens (fig. 2). Darunia, the Goron patriarch, is angry to see that the messenger from the Royal Family is a mere boy. He explains that there are food shortages and the yield of the Bomb Flower crop has been very poor. To cheer up Darunia, play Saria's Song, he breaks out of his depression and dances vigorously.

Darunia tells you that if you want the Goron's Ruby (the Spiritual Stone of Fire), you will first have to open a passage to Dodongo's Cavern and kill the dangerous Dodongos there. To help you in this quest, he gives you the Goron's Bracelet (fig. 1) to allow Link to pick up Bomb Flowers. Exit Goron City through the passage you entered and go to the cliff to the right, where you will find a Goron and a Bomb Flower. Take this Bomb Flower and throw it to the boulder blocking Dodongo's Cavern (fig. 2). If you have aimed correctly, it will blow up (fig. 3). Go down and enter it.
